R.C. Goodwyn, Sr.
Founder
President 1932-1966
R. C. Goodwyn and his brother Arthur came to Powhatan County from Chesterfield County in 1932 to establish a sawmill on what was known as the Hatcher Plantation. The location of this farm was on Academy and Goodwyn Roads.
R. C. Goodwyn, known as Dick, later bought out his brother an became sole owner of the company. He married a native Powhatan girl, the former Mary Franklin Worsham, bought the farm, raised 6 children and became a very successful businessman.
He was soon to see his small operation turn into a fleet of trucks, an electric sawmill, a planning mill, a millwork shop, several warehouses, a salesperson, and many wonderful employees. One by one he initiated his children into the lumber business.
On January 1, 1969 he retired from the business, leaving a legacy to his children and 16 grandchildren which consisted not only of his extensive knowledge of lumber, but his high standard of integrity. He will long be remembered by those who knew him as a man who gave unselfishly to his family, his community, and his church.

A Letter from the President
From the sawmill days when our grandfather started this family business in the late 20s, to today's ever changing Internet world, we here at R.C. Goodwyn's have been all about service. We look optimistically to 2012 for there to be improvement in our industry compared to the last 3 years. We invite you to come and visit our showroom and talk to our experienced sales staff for all your building needs.
Even though our sawmill days are long gone, our company has progressed in many other ways. We now have a hardware store and a dumpster business, along with our mainstays; lumber, windows, doors, and of course custom millwork. Please take a minute to check our website and call or email us if you have any questions about how we may help you. Remember, we have access to thousands of items, so no matter what you are looking for, we can probably help you. We are always interested in constructive feedback and we are always here to service you.
